So why choose Family Mediation. For starters, most Family Court cases encourage mediation to cut through nitty-gritty and get the papers signed. I see Mediation differently. To me, Mediation is space to cut through the nitty-gritty but at our own pace, in your own time, without the rush or timeline of the court system. Mediation is designed to keep decisions in your hands, so a judge isn’t the one making the decisions on things you can’t resolve yourselves. The goal of Mediation is for both participants to feel like they’re walking out comfortable with the decisions they just made, and informed enough to feel comfortable saying those decisions were the right ones.
People don’t usually choose Mediation because it’s something that popped into their heads on Monday morning before work. In most cases, they learn it’s part of the process of separation either through their attorneys or through researching the process of divorce in Florida. Mediation is an option you choose to participate in, and a space for decisions to break down to the bare bones and rebuild into the structure that’s going to make the most sense. Not to me, not to your attorney, or Mother-in-Law, but to you.
